The Tetley brand team in the UK has launched a new advert featuring the Tea Folk to broaden and deepen the Tetley brand’s appeal amongst the nation’s tea drinkers. The new adverts form part of a £9m marketing programme spanning television, press, poster presence and online activity.

The campaign sees Sydney singing an ode to the thing he loves most in the world, a cup of Tetley Tea. The tune he sings is ‘Just the way you are’ by Billy Joel, the classic 70s love song. It is the fourth advert in the Tea Folk’s come-back series, which was launched in September last year and saw the characters return as hand-drawn 2D characters.

“This is an exciting year for the Tetley Tea Folk,” says Simon Attfield, Customer Marketing Manager for Tetley. “The presence and popularity of the Tea Folk has grown steadily since their return last year and they are proving to be the perfect ambassadors for the brand and an ideal vehicle to communicate the qualities of our range of teas.”

Their return follows years of enquiries from the tea-loving public demanding the lovable Yorkshire stars return. To help keep fans up to date with all the latest Tea Folk news the gang have gone digital with their very own website, Twitter and Facebook accounts. Fans will be able to have a chat with Gaffer, watch exclusive videos, enter competitions and get a little insight into what's going on when the Tea Folk are not on TV.

The latest advert went live on 1st October, and is being supported by online advertising. This will be followed by an advert for Tetley Extra Strong on 22nd October and Tetley Green Tea in January 2012.

The advert has had a very warm reception on social media. Twitter comments so far include:

“I find the new Tetley tea advert so cute.”

“I know everyone's talking about X Factor but that new Tetley advert just made me cry.”

“Why does the Tetley tea ad make me feel so emotional? I do like a cup of tea mind.”

“That Tetley’s ad totally represents how ur first cuppa makes u feel in the morning!

“Got quite emotional over the Tetley’s advert, a touching tribute to tea.”
